Sonablate® Advanced Technology Helps Optimize Surgical Outcomes

Fresno, CA (July 31, 2018) – Fresno Surgical Hospital (FSH) today announced it has acquired the Sonablate surgical technology. The hospital is the only area hospital to offer this urological surgical equipment. This technology, which utilizes high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), allows urologists to create customized and minimally-invasive treatment plans for patients suffering from prostate cancer.

During a HIFU Prostate Tissue Ablation procedure, surgeons can more accurately pinpoint and then destroy the cancerous tissue without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. This technology also gives surgeons the ability to analyze real-time imaging to monitor tissue change during the procedure, therefore, optimizing surgical outcomes and patient safety.

Nadeem Rahman, MD, who conducts HIFU procedures at FSH, is currently the only Central Valley urologist to perform this procedure locally.

“Unfortunately, prostate cancer is common. Patients in the Central Valley are extremely fortunate to have access to such advanced surgical technology,” says Dr. Rahman. “This technology, combined with Fresno Surgical Hospital’s dedication to an enhanced patient experience, truly optimizes surgical outcomes.”

According to the American Cancer Society, one in every nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime. Each year in the U.S. approximately 165,000 men are diagnosed with the disease.

“It is our mission at Fresno Surgical Hospital to deliver the highest-quality care possible,” says Kristine Kassahn, Chief Executive Officer of Fresno Surgical Hospital. “Providing the best surgical tools allows our physicians to offer their patients the most advanced care right here in the Central Valley.”
