Dr. Wiens graduated magna cum laude from Fresno State University, with a major in health science and a minor in chemistry. In 1982, he received his medical degree from UC Davis School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency in 1985. Dr. Wiens is board-certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Following his residency, he spent five years in the San Francisco Bay Area practicing sports medicine and interventional spine medicine. During this time, he worked with numerous professional sporting teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, San Jose-Cleveland Ballet, San Jose Golddiggers (women’s professional volleyball), and various Olympic athletes.

Since moving back home to Fresno, he has continued his practice in the management of spine pain, electrodiagnostic medicine (EMGs/NCVs), along with occupational and sports medicine. He is a Qualified Medical Evaluator.

Dr. Wiens currently devotes time to the community as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fresno County. He has served the California Medical Association (CMA) as a member of the Board of Trustees and is past president of the Fresno-Madera Medical Society.

In years past, Dr. Wiens has been the team physician for the Fresno Falcons and the Fresno Bandits. He is a consulting physician to California State University at Fresno Athletic Department & Fresno Pacific University.

Dr. Wiens is a private pilot, sailed in the 1999 Pacific Cup Race, and swam the English Channel (England to France, 14:56) in 2007. He also enjoys riding his Harley, backpacking, long distance open water swimming, and mountaineering. He enjoys spending time with his family.

Dr. William von Kaenel is board certified in Pain Management and Anesthesiology. He trained in pain management at the Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. von Kaenel specializes in diagnosis and the interventional treatment of painful spine disorders. His patients receive a detailed and comprehensive evaluation. Procedures include epidural steroid injection, discography, percutaneous discectomy, spinal cord stimulation, and radiofrequency denervation.

Dr. Ky earned his osteopathic medical degree in 2004 from the Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Vallejo, CA. In 2008, he completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In 2009, Dr. Ky was granted acceptance to the Johns Hopkins Pain Fellowship Program in the Department of Anesthesiology – Pain Medicine to advance his skills and knowledge in interventional pain management. Gopi Kasturi, M.D., is a board-certified physiatrist specializing in pain management and physical medicine and rehabilitation. After receiving his medical degree from Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India, Dr. Kasturi completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He then went on to complete a research fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University and Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia.

In addition to neuromusculoskeletal rehabilitation and pain management, Dr. Kasturi has a keen interest in osteoporosis. He has written and lectured extensively on this topic.

Before joining Sierra Pacific Orthopedics, Dr. Kasturi was on staff at the VA Hospital in Fresno, California, where he served as Chair of the Interdisciplinary Chronic Pain Committee and was instrumental in advancing pain management and rehabilitation services to our country’s brave soldiers.

Dr. Kasturi is an associate editor of PM&R, the official scientific journal of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R).

Dr. Smith received his Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from Louisiana State University in 1980. He then went on to earn his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport in 1986. Dr. Smith is also fellowship-trained in interventional pain management from the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center.

Dr. Smith completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and was chief resident in P.M. & R.

He is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and is board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Smith is a member of the Fresno-Madera Medical Society. He has medical licenses in several states outside of California, including New Mexico, Colorado, and Louisiana.

Before joining Sierra Pacific Orthopedics Medical Group, Dr. Smith was in private practice for 15 years. Dr. Smith has also served as a team physician for the U.S. Barefoot Water Ski Team.

In his spare time, Dr. Smith enjoys pursuing outdoor activities, such as snow and water skiing and is also an avid guitar player.
